Staff were protesting against the attack on two Unison shop stewards, Sheila Amaneer and Mark Tindley, suspended due to allegations of "intimidation" on the picket line during last month's strike.

Nearly all staff in the Benefits and Local Taxation office struck, and were due to meet today to vote on further official action.

After 3 months of campaigning by local residents and users of the Fountain Pub in West Green Rd, N15 the Council finally conceded that it can't allow such a well-used local community facility to be demolished or turned into yet another a block of flats.

Tony Smythe
Born 2 August 1938 - UK, died 27 March 2004 - UK

Tony was educated at University College School and conscription was the catalyst for his radical activism. In 1958, he was imprisoned for three months as a conscientious objector, refusing not only military service, but also alternative civilian service. He became, and remained until his death,a radical anarcho-pacifist.
