South Yorkshire fire crews anger over shift changes

They say there is growing anger among fire crews over new threats to impose new shifts.

Firefighters want to know why there has been no negotiation with their union before South Yorkshire fire authority councillors received the proposals for consideration. The Fire Brigades Union has still not been officially given details of the plans, although full press packs have been sent to the media.

York postal workers wildcat strike to support colleague

Sam Southgate reported on thisisyork.co.uk that about 30 collection drivers and some other staff staged the wildcat strike at the firm's Leeman Road base, at about 3.10pm yesterday, to support their work-mate.

The three-hour stoppage caused disruption to parcel collections from post offices and Royal Mail's business customers.

Nestle threaten staff with job losses

Nestle has threatened to move more production out of York if unions do not agree to a 15% reduction in wages for its remaining workforce after announcing last month that it was axing 645 jobs and moving some production to other factories in the UK and Europe.

Yorkshire teachers on strike over new roles

Pupils at Todmorden High School in Calderdale are affected by the one-day strike by members of the National Union of Teachers (NUT).

The row follows a complete overhaul of the staffing structure at every school in England and Wales.

A union spokesman said negotiations would start again but further strike action could not be ruled out.
