libcom.org unveils new theme

This May Day 2012 we are happy to unveil the beta version of our new theme.

Submitted by libcom on May 1, 2012

There are a few teething problems with it which we are aware of, and some we may not be. If you have any problems please check this thread in feedback to see if we are aware of the problem already, and if not let us know about it there.

There are lots of new features with the new look, and over the coming weeks we will be making more tweaks and changes.

Feel free to let us know what you think of the new look below.

Not a big fan. It looks cluttered and isn't clearly divided up. I'm also not a fan of listing how many comments a blog post has unless it says how many are new.

Like this one better. Articles look, for lack of a better word, more professional.

this is a temporary anti-spam measure as we were flooded this morning. active users should have 'regular user' permissions which bypasses some of the anti-spam stuff - you should be ok to post now.

I'm a new member but I wanted to contribute. Should I just wait out anti-spam measure?

Hi,

Not all users are able to post blogs, we have to change your permissions before you're able to blog. All registered users can post news, history, library articles and forum threads.

If you'd like a blog, PM me or any of the other admins to let us know a bit about you and what you'd be blogging about and we can take it from there.

Welcome to libcom btw!

I don't know if it's due to the new theme, but I can't see anything in the sectors part of the library. As in the stuff at the top and right of the page is there as normal, but there aren't any sectors to click on..

Click on the new posts link for a thread ie 16 comments 14 new comments, doesn't take you to the newest comment any more.
I can't read pms, all of the titles are pushed right to the right hand side and hidden under the sidebar. Looking in my profile options to see if I could switch views I noticed most of that info is hidden too.
I just updated firefox so it shouldn't be that.
edit: it does the same shit when I track a users posts, it hides them under the side bar.
I can access the stuff by switching from view > page style > basic style to no style.

With problems with the theme, please post in the "issues with the new theme" thread. Jef, thanks for pointing that out but that is a known issue with Firefox which we hope to sort shortly. It works okay in Google Chrome and Internet Explorer new versions.

Infrared, thanks for raising that (although the issues thread is the right place), we will look into it. Let us know on the issues thread what browser you are using

Looks aside, it feels a lot less like a discussion forum now, and more like The Guardian or even Youtube, where the comments are cursory asides to the OP or main article/content.

I'm not sure if it's just the formatting, or text placement or whatever, or the clutter on each post now being more visible. They layout does give the impression initially that the discussion are asides, which is not what a discussion forum is!

I don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but I can't view or send messages. Thanks in advance for addressing this.

I really liked the first theme update. This one hurts my eyes and looks more amateurish to me.

You don't think that an over enlarged, massively pixelated logo surrounded by whitespace with a banner graphic only half the size of the space it is in looked amateurish?

Meh, it's probably the whole change thing. Looking at it a second time it doesn't look nearly as bad.
