AF myspace friends

just sifting through the 6 pages of applicants.

Not really sure what to say, many of them have nothing on their profile to explain why they want to be mates, none of them have written a message, and lots of them were dodgy. Knocked back one fascist - his profile was not explicit, just a few dodgy symbols, so i checked his friends' - sure enough, evil nazi goths/death metallers. Didn't send any abuse, no need for silly weirdoes having anet war. Lots of random hippies, 90% are animal rights advocates.

On the AR thing i have said we are happy to link/be 'friends' with people on a personal capacity but we won't link directly to AR orgs or networks, simply because this would misrepresent our politics and theirs - we don't do any AR work.

I avoided saying 'nobody in the AF see's how smashing up a laboratory makes you a communist' obviously, and the resposnse from AR groups have been fine.

Whats the etiquette on myspace? Add anyone who isn't outright distasteful to you anf have thousands of friends?

And who are Anarchist Collective they have 13,000 members!

Depends on what you see the purpose of our myspace page as being.

If it's there to promote our politics and act as a point of contact with potential members, then it's probably advisable to be civil with AR types, but not to have them listed as friends unless they also have a strong class struggle focus or there's some other good reason to add them.

If the purpose is to make ourselves look bigger and more important than we actually are, then just add everybody who isn't a shit stirrer or an outright fascist.

I think the Anarchist Collective are essentially just a discussion group.

Does it matter who are friends are on myspace? Obviously if they look like fascist nutters then give 'em the boot. But so what is they don't have a right-on class struggle focus, they're not joining the AF, they're associating themselves with us on a website.
If they're animal activists (good!) and like hugging trees and wearing tie-dye, that doesn't matter. They might not be anarchists at all, but they're obviously interested. As we say in Organise!, revolutionary ideas don't drop out of thin air, they come about through discussion and debate (and association with revolutionaries too).
I'd say that everyone who wants to should be our 'friend', even all those bands that want you for their publicity - we can use them for ours smile

anarchist collective is nothing more than liberal progressives co-opting anarchism for their own watered down purposes.

Now this is getting very odd.

the last few weeks have seen a number of ppl apply with links to dodgepot goth/industrial record labels (particularly this one http://www.myspace.com/[LINK BROKEN BY ME]obscureresistance. )

They seem to enjoy pretty provocative imagery and interests in nazi germany - in an apolitical kind of way.

A lot of these labels use nazi imagery, but they also move in the same circles as Coldspring records - home of Troy Southgate http://www.myspace.com/[BROKEN]coldspring

I don't want to add anyone who has lnks to this scene.

Is it all just harmless fun? Seems a very odd interest for anarchist sympathisers to have. I think its a mix up due to Sothgates bizarre 'national anarchism' - but that makes it even less appealing to associate with anyone linked to him.
Its the last confusion we'd want to sow.

Just to add, there were far more dodgy profiles with pictures of the balklans conflict, supportive of the fascist groups there, but they were immiediately rejected so we've lost the links.

It really is no joke - pictures of fascist death squads. And their victims.

Why would people like this think we would want to know them?
Why do people like this fucking exist...
