Three talks each followed by a question and discussion period.

Break for light lunch before the second talk.

Marx and Economics

Speaker: Darren Poynton

Why History Matters

Speaker: Gwynn Thomas

‘History is more or less bunk…. We want to live in the present …’

Henry Ford, interview in Chicago Tribune, May 25th, 1916.

'Who controls the past controls the future: who controls the present controls the past’.

George Orwell, 1984.

If the working class is to go forward its path will be illuminated by a knowledge of the past. We must be aware of our history.

Marx on "The Anarchists I Knew"

Speaker: Adam Buick

Marx knew personally the three thinkers Anarchists see as the founders of their doctrine, Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, Max Stirner and Mikhail Bakunin and discussed their ideas in detail, but from the point of view of someone who himself wanted a stateless society. The marxologist Maximilien Rubel even described Marx as the first theorist of anarchism. A look at what Marx said to and about the other theorists of an anarchist society of his day.
