'The Strange Death of Labour Ireland: 1912-1922'

Public Meeting at SPGB Office, 52 Clapham High Street, London SW4 7UN

Sunday, 14 September 2014 - 3:00pm

"A talk by Dr. Ivan Gibbons (guest speaker), Programme Director and Senior Lecturer in Irish Studies at St.Mary's University, Twickenham.

Dr. Gibbons is a labour historian of the period 1912-1922 and will talk about the demise of Irish labour in the face of nationalist resurgence. He will make references to the Dublin Lockout of 1913, James Connolly, and how the Irish Free State used its new army to break a postal workers strike after 'independence' and that the material conditions of the Irish working class worsened somewhat after 1921."
