Update on the extinguisher guy:

Telegraph (yes, I know) reports that he's a 17 year old from Hampshire who's now out on bail. Looking at the picture, he doesn't look like the same one from the well-circulated photo. The good news is that his charge has been downgraded to violent disorder. He also entered no plea in court.

The comments section on that article depresses me greatly.

Although I actually quite like the article itself. It's quite basic, but not a bad introduction to anyone reading with an open mind (as few as they may be). Never thought I'd see something like that in the Guardian.

Sorry. Just giving an opinion. No serious, incisive political commentary intended, just an offhand opinion.

Anyone here going along to the General Student Assembly on the 28th?

It could be just a talking shop, but is the first time I've heard of a full-on 'democratic assembly' proposed as part of the current student movement.

wouldn't have thought he would need one really - if it is his first offence and he is under 18 he will just get a referral order

A referral order(whatever that is) for violent disorder which carries a maximum sentence of 5 years, for what will be seen as a political act, really?
