A REMOTE farm in the Lanarkshire countryside was transformed last weekend into a city of well laid-out army tents and marquees resembling a military encampment.

Possibly the worst piece of 'journalism' I've read this year. Not only horribly slanted, but sensationalist, badly written and bases its entire 'anarchists are out to get us' theme on a throwaway comment by one person (never mind the journalist's mantra of 'support your evidence, always get two sources') and the prospect of non-violent direct action being used. Hell I could have told them that was in the pipeline and I've never even been to a dissent meeting roll eyes. Then he goes on to call it investigative reporting. If that's investigative reporting I'll be a monkey's uncle.

"They were housed in a tent city set in the farm’s 50 acres that included a military-style mess hall, where activists lined up in orderly queues for vegan meals."

Camp site, one big tent, queuing up nicely for vegan food. Fucking hell that's scary!

A mixture of shite reporting and fucking nastiness.

Really it's nothing new. I'm pretty sure half that info is just c&p from the Standards 2002/3 Mayday coverage. To think they get paid for it...

I bought Notes from the Borderland on Friday, so it was nice to see a bit of journo-coppery in the paper on Saturday morning.

What struck me was the way that ½ the story was about "eminent" WOMBLE & the other ½ was about the "training camp" in Scotland, & read pretty much as if the WOMBLES were behind it. And then, what do you know, buried in a tiny paragraph towards the end, it says that the WOMBLE "ringleader" they'd spent so much time writing about wasn't actually in Scotland. roll eyes

Innuendo & half-truth. Ye cannae beat it.

To be perfectly honest, it sounds like a really easy job. I imagine the person who got picked for that story was over the moon.

"Right, anarchists. Talk about chaos, imply that they're terrorists...and what do you call those weirdos who don't drink milk?? Freaks?? No wait...vegans. Sorted, I'm off down the pub."

Maybe I should become a hack.
