we're slowly doing intros to go at the top of tag indexes

http://libcom.org/intro/anarchism

http://libcom.org/tags/anarchism

is that what you meant?

I meant that when you hit the tag, the intro (or a link to it) would be available. People might find a tag in an article they've googled or whatever, then if they hit some of the tags it might be better for them to have an explanation of the tag ias well as a list of tagged articles. For example I've pretty much stopped explaining french acronyms, but if the CGT/FO etc tags had a brief intro then it might be better.
Good to have you back mate btw.

the intro is available on that one??

We've not got intros for all the tags though.

isn't the intro at a different link? or am I just missing the point? seems likely it's me smile

the intro's at the top of the tags (hopefully it'll get formatted differently soon so it stands out a bit, it's also got it's own page.

That's cause we know how to make communism happen.

Does Tahiti count as South America? I hope it does, I'm top story all down one side of the newswire embarrassed

I'm definitely going outside now, I think I might try to talk face to face to a human as well.

jef, wow that's some good work. news is looking great...

right so a few things:
- FO tag was in groups, it and all other non-anarchist unions and groups should be in "tags" not "groups/people"
- workplace injuries tag deleted, replaced with "health and safety"
- jos k - "Eqypt" head and tag deleted (but not from list)
- newspapers are in media and culture, not communications
- strikes should be tagged strikes plural, not singular. strike tag needs killing from list now
- construction is a sector, shouldn't be a tag - needs deleting
- tahiti is in oceania (that story is the bomb by the way!)

thanks.

Can I edit stories that have been moderated without them needing to be moderated again? If the edits are small I might not want to take the articles offline once they've been passed.

Check this one out I had to look this place up to make sure I didn't get the continent wrong smile

I've got a few more stories I'll put up tonight, I've focussed on these ones because they're a bit more out of the way. Plus I totally pwn France right now!

Did you remove the 'blockades' tag? I know I've used it before but it doesn't come up on autofill. It's a pretty common tactic so I think it should be in there, I've left it out for now though cause I'm not sure why it's gone. I don't mind an alternate tag, blockades does sound a bit governmenty but I couldn't find any equivalents in autofill either.

If you're asking if it works, I dunno - this moderation module is dif to the old one.

If you're asking for permission then yeah - but we need to overhaul permissions massively and no-one's got to it yet.

oh, I must have missed it somehow.

I was checking whether it was worth editing small things catch, I'm not sure I really need permissions, one of you guys is usually online to put the stories through for me.

alright jef, just subbing your stories now.

really good stuff, as always cool

but there are a couple of main things i could mention to maybe improve them a bit. again no real worries cos we can sub them, but worth pointing out anyway i thought:

- did you know you can put pics in without saving them to your PC by copy+pasting the image URL into the image "browse/upload" field? maybe that might work on your computer...

- it'd be good if intros could be kept shorter. no longer than 2 lines in the entry box.

For example, your belgium one is:

Quote:
120 of the 200 striking workers at SLM (a Ford subcontractor in Gent) refused to participate in a vote on the agreement made by the unions, judging the salary increase to be too low. Fellow strikers at Lear Corporations (another subcontractor) also refused to vote on the plan.

It would be better like this:

Quote:
Strikers at car firm SLM refused to vote on an agreement made by unions, judging the salary increase to be too low.

the rest of the info can them be included in the main article.

just a couple of tips anyway!

Ok John. I submitted that one by mistake and just resubmitted it with edits.

One of them was cutting the intro embarrassed

I'm getting better at tags and pictures, and I'm sticking it to the unions 8)

I do need to go back and edit one because I forgot that the airport in Roissy is CDG and is not called Roissy

i didn't know that, but it makes sense. less chance of getting caught with a desktop full of striking workers now smile

Also, i removed stuff in brackets from the article, put it between commas instead.

I shortened headline and removed unexplained acronym. best to have something people understand and can relate to in the headline.

someone's added some info as well about it being a wildcat.

I didn't think we could, it'll save time. Just checked the SML article, my edits went through so if you added tags or something then they'll have been lost.

Are we any closer to being able to search the tracker for content type? I stopped backing up my articles ages ago and I was thinking I might go through and save copies of them. I must have done quite a lot by now.

I'll remember that, I just get worried I'll use too many commas; it's a bad habit of mine.

good point

that was me, I spotted a second article on it.

And to prove I can't leave well alone I went back and fixed a typo too.

Do we need strikes and wildcat strikes for this article? I thought I'd taken out strikes. Does this mean you put it back in (and want it in) or that I forgot to take it out?

editing gate gourmet piece too.

- best not to put acronyms unexplained in title.
- in text good to explain what they are, like LSG, GSF, what are they? i'm guessing catering firms so putting that in.
- dates, just put in the number day, so 7 March, not 7th
- i put in transport sector not food, tho i added food service tag.
- spelling
- intro shortened

paris story:
- full stop removed from title
- union tags added
- intro shortened - union memberships moved to article body

LSG-Gate-Gourmet is the name of GG in France.
GSF I have no idea.

did someone switch news comments on?

nothing wrong with OL's comment, but I think it's a bad idea in general.

irish nurses strike I just put this up, I tried to use the URL to load a picture but it was not having it.
I couldn't find the UK nurses threat to strike article, other wise I'd have linked to that, I think I might have some more nurse articles shortly if so I'll edit in links.

I've got another Ireland story to come, I'm diversifying (got the nurses off a french newswire though)

should I stick in a prices tag because I talk about inflation? (or rather could you do it for me)

edit: comments on news articles, I like them but they can't be on the same page or you have to moderate them to fuck. And it'd better be harder to submit a comment on a story than to submit one.

edit: that's 3 times I've tried to use the URL to upload a picture, what am I doin wrong? I put the URL in the box and hit upload and nothing happens. If I submit the story anyway there is no picture.

Are we any closer to a full tags index? I'm getting better at finding them but I'm still missing a fair few. Thanks for putting them in guys.

I'll try putting in the URL thing for the next one. I just need asia and oceania to have done all the continents (I might have done an asian one, Korea I think, I can't find one though.)

has anyone got an idea what a QL is?
French posties won the creation of three of them. Sadly all I can get off the internet is a Quebec liberation nut, an old Sinclair computer and the fact that lots of people us it instead of quel.
Google has forsaken me sad

luckily they got about 5 other things so I can still do the story smile

Ok more stories up, I've found three more but I'm a bit tired now might do them later on. I added a claimants tag as well. surprised there wasn't one already (unless I missed it)

And I finally got the lowdown on the night workers strike in the post office! fucking indymedia has been teasing me for ages.
