Loading very slowly.

the first time I call up libcom, whichever page I go to it takes 15-30 seconds to load. Once I'm in the times speed up until they're normal.
TOday for examplee the front page took about 20 seconds, the announcements forum took about 3 seconds, the topic took a second (if that) and now it's all fast as usual (apart from deleting people, looking at profiles/tracker etc which always takes an age)
As it's my first visit that goes so slowly I was wondering if it might be due to how it logs in returning posters because my libcom is always logged in.

Same for me. It's really slow in Firefox; loads a wee bit faster in Chrome.

the 'track' page is very slow to respond, has long been so.

Some caches are per-user or per-role, so the site should get moderately faster after a couple of page views (if you're logged in). Also if you happen to be the only logged in user at any one time, other caches will be being built by you and you only, so that slows things down too (then it slows down again if there's lots of logged-in users...).

We want to do some re-organisation of the more popular landing pages. When we do that, I'll also try to audit performance on those to see if we can improve it more generally.

OK I just thought of something which might help, especially with first page views but also in general. I've enabled this, it means not using the "who's online" block because that doesn't work with this system at all, that's a small price if the site loads faster overall.

Yeah this takes logins out of the database and into memory, but you should hopefully only get forced logout once.

only down side is that we won't spot spam accounts being created as easily

unrelated but don't think it's worth a new thread: the "who's online" section seems to have disappeared (new posts are being made, but no usernames show up on the right side as they used to)

seriously though is there really no chance of bringing "who's online" back? Coz right now this town is coming like a ghost town.

There are two choices:

1. The site loading quicker

2. Who's online

If #1 stays bad for long enough, eventually #2 would be empty anyway.

I can possibly hack something up to be "users active in the past 10 minutes" or similar, but it won't be this week.

I remember those times when I couldn't give two hoots about loading speed. It is ironic then that these days it takes me at least 3 minutes to make a post for some reason. It has been the case for the past month or so, but I was just hoping it was a "phase" that wold eventually go away. It's getting exponentially annoying though.
I have not changed my internet connection, and I am using the same computer/browser/settings.
Anyone else experiencing posting delays/slow-as-fuck loading?

Yeah it is very slow for me. Slowest website that I visit. Logging in and posting is very slow.

Browsing the site has been pretty consistent for me, it's not snappy, the tracker is slow if you haven't visited it a for a while, but it's usually quite stable overall.

However posting or updating content is extremely slow - I need to bring a copy of the site down locally and profile it a bit to isolate whether it's the site itself or the server that's having the trouble. I'm pretty sure it's a combination of things, one or two might be easy fixes, others are just hard on a busy site with lots of content and while I know how to fix them it takes a lot of planning and dedicated time which I don't have much of at the moment. Will see if I can get some incremental improvements done though.
