Does a story's position come from date submitted or date approved?
I've left one in moderation because there are a few up but I don't want it to get buried either.

At the moment you can't, I'll look into what exactly you're missing that stops you. You can tell us to do it though I guess.

Can a clever person fix this?

http://libcom.org/news/france-workers-blockades-attacked-police-19012008

I've attached the image and I've used code c + ped from another artifcle but it isn't working. Can you figure it out?

input format was the problem, but I killed it and stuck it as the main image anyway.

I can see it now but I couldn't before, maybe I just missed it in Moderation. Either that or it's a deliberate conspiracy by the admins. Why do peeps do these things? sad

I have left this story in moderation I was worried that it came across as too liberal.

edit: if it can go up then approve it, if a few edits are needed then do themk. If it's not up to being news then don't delete it, I'll just stick it in my blog, it took a bit of time to do so I'd rather it didn't go completely to waste.

I've been trying to be a bit better about labelling images, especially good ones, I was googling for images for a recent one and shitloads of our pictures are top or high up. I'm not sure if that's a good way to get traffic but I thought I'd mention it.

You might want to change the submission dates for laureakai's last two news articles, they've got a bit buried and they're good.

btw, re: news index, maybe be best being more like front page index? i.e. big giant pic/headline, then maybe 2 mini pic/teasers below, then 10 headlines / country box like now?

Na, I think it's much better with five stories up, they tend to come in bursts and we want to keep stuff up there and visible. Unless you lot were wrong about the importance of pictures wink

I was thinking abot one bic featured pic, then about 10 items, same teaser style as front page, two columns hopefully - but maybe country added to it. Sound alright?

Would the feature be the same as front page rotation (currently 2)?

Either way I want all indexes more like the front page index, including the front page index, which isn't quite there yet.

OK how about this: http://libcom.org/news - edit: switched it.

want to add a "news from last year" block + news forum to it in the two gaps for now. Will try to do that later.

It looks good but does that means we'll lose the sectors blocks?
I'd still like to have more pictures on display though.

The right sidebar sectors block will still be there, the regions blocks would be redundant. I'd like to have a couple more images as well, but need to find a way to keep that consistent while not repeating stuff.

looks good, liking the countries shown but better than the current index - if we could display that with all feed blocks that'd be great.

also on it, and on main index we should say above the box what's in it. i.e. front page have:
NEWS.................................................. HISTORY and LIBRARY...............................................

FORUMS............................ABOUT..........................................................BLOGS........................

FEATURES....................................................................................................................................

etc. like guardian has

Steven: countries are there now as tags - next to the submitted date. Or you mean on all other feed block as well? If so then yeah that's easy smile

I found it really hard to put headers in the white space and have it work, will have a think though.

Anyway, I switched them. Can keep working on it - would be nice to have a third row of stuff if possible.

Oh Jef, by the way, now we have country automatically appearing alongside headlines, you can just skip it in the title.

Actually for countries it can still be a good idea, less for the sake of searching and more for when people first look.

I agree with Saii, I'd rather leave it in for now. If countries are here to stay in the views then I could put cities into the headlines which might be better for searches etc.
So instead of
France: Carrefour workers strike enters 11th day it would be Carrefour workers in Le Havre continue strike for 11th day.

Does that seem ok?

Cities are good yeah. Or you can just do "Civil servants strike in France" "French civil servants strike", any variation - but we used to recommened "Country: some title" specifically and don't need to do that any more.
