articles needing formatting

OK so I found a couple of things about the Russian Revolution that weren't tagged properly, and ended looking at some of the first library articles we stuck in to see how bad formatting is. Not a disaster, but worth tidying up.

fwiw, I got from the last page to http://libcom.org/library/latest?page=135 working backwards.

All I'm doing is putting a photo, and usually there's already an introduction which just needs moving to the right spot, then adding a few tags here and there. Then moving between history and library if necessary, or vice versa.

As you'll see, chapters of books show up in these lists because they're all library pages. The only answer to that I can think of is promoting all articles to front page, except chapters which don't have tags + photos. This we need to do one by one unfortunately, but we can make views to simplify the process. I'm going to work on that a bit later probably.

OK three new views, tabs aren't working properly yet:

http://libcom.org/articles (history + library, front page, alphabetical, promoted to front page)
http://libcom.org/articles/latest (new history and library stuff, promoted and not promoted stuff)
http://libcom.org/articles/not-promoted - everything in library and history which isn't promoted.

Alright, so I went through /articles - that's 27 pages = 540 articles. Everything in that now has a photo and introduction.

In contrast, http://libcom.org/articles/not-promoted?page=121 - that's 122 pages = 2,440 articles. Some of these will be formatted fine but not promoted (in which case please promote them if you see them, some will be chapters of books, some will need fixing up.

OK so now: http://libcom.org/articles/not-promoted is 95% articles that need either an intro, or a photo or both. 111 pages neutral (2,200 articles).

Many of them already have intros but they're not in the right place to show up in feeds etc. some I just didn't get to yet, some are child pages of books. So it's probably more like 2-300 articles that just need bumping up after a quick check, and 1300 that have formatting issues.

Also I don't think we have to have a photo for every single article - it's hard to find one with some, and better none at all than a really shit one.

In case anyone hasn't caught up, this is what the promoted/not promoted division does:

All front page, side blocks, and indexes only show articles that are "promoted to front page"- this means the intro and photo fits a standard format so they're fairly consistent.

This should also be the case for any "new content" lists linked from main indexes to avoid book chapters showing up and keeping the lists manageable looking.

tags have any article in the tag, as should any directory style thing we do.

The main issues with this are if something is poorly tagged AND not well formatted, it'll be impossible to find without searching - this is no different from now since it's pointless browsing through a list of 2,000 articles hoping to find something.

In terms of fixing it, it's demoralising going through page by page, so best to do it in sections like I've been trying with russian revolution etc. - then it's manageable chunks to deal with.
