Yeah that's the only issue.

Reckon we could move to a "panels" type page, so things stick around on the front a bit longer. Maybe have latest five stories, a custom "regions" and custom "sectors" latest article/5 latest feed next to each other beneath it?

Is there any intention of moving to a design as neautiful as the last one?

I thought it was some kind of neologism wink

ping - what was beautiful about the old one? what's not beautiful about this one?

Theming's a big job that we're only a fraction of the way through, it's one of the harder ones though.

The last design was great- the stars at the top...other stuff.

The new one is quite bare and not very easy to navigate around. I understand that theming is in its infancy though...

Mm yeah the one column series is a bit unweildy and takes up a LOT of room per article (ideally you'd want a good dozen stories viewable at any one time without scrolling). Might suggest two columns, UK and international mebbe? Or Industry/community? Ideally you shouldn't have to scroll much at all.

Have you seen these:

http://libcom.org/news/sectors

http://libcom.org/news/regions
?

I'd like to re-integrate regional and industrial filtering into the news index, think that'd help, but it's hard to get it looking decent.

It's very easy to stick a graphic up top and stuff, but we need the graphics in order to be able to do that.

Now (nearly) all the content is transferred, indexes are the next big job.

If anyone's got ideas of what they'd like to be able to see on the front pages of each section, that'd be handy, should probably be another thread though.

Well, the sectors and regions bits are hidden away- I bet there are a whole load of people that have never seen them. I think they should be very visible hardlinks on the top of the news feed.

Ping - yes design/navigation is a MASSIVE issue. And very hard to conceptualise and actualise.

Right now I think we are agreed we are concentrating on content.

Best thing is to start a new thread and just use it to list (no discussion) themeing ideas etc. So we can start getting some ideas going.

I can probly knock up a pdf at some point of a design (depending on what sort of colour palette/font ideas you have for it) next week but wouldn't be able to code it, so twould be more a suggestions type thing.

yeah pls do. Dont be offended if we dont use it or it takes us sometime to get round to doing anything with it. but we love suggestions and ideas.

Work with the colours we are using now, if they can be called colours. Fonts are Verdana

oh ok we have that. But because the text looks different in three different browsers, we'll probably want to have a star-and-text logo in the header at some point, and we don't have anything specific knocked up for news.

Started new thread.

zobag fucking nice one with the news!! it's great.

greece school: headline shortened (and apostrophe wink), greece put in Western Europe

stagecoach: NE england tag deleted cos too long to use regularly, think we're best sticking with towns or counties when mentioned. Buses tag added. Organisation and unions tags deleted cos they're not theoretical pieces about organisation or the nature of unions, which is how those tags have been mostly used.

Cool- won't tag by agency again and will remove author at bottom- didn't know whether to create a shell tag as haven't submitted to the newswire before.

hey yeah of course. none of us knows the tags in their entirety, this thread is so people can let each other know stuff like that. it's cool you started posting!

Ha, next you'll be telling me Nigeria is in Africa or something. Geographic pedantry serves only to divide the working classes.

should be all lower case, but cool.

should retro-actively add more shit in there...

i'll put the bus things in sector transport not military - that's for stuff about working in the military or the police really.

zobag don't be sorry! this isn't having a go, it's just so everyone can begin to pick it up cool

Any chance of sticking a list of tags in the OP or somewhere else useful?

If you can see the "directory" link in your "my account" menu, that's got all the tags alphabetised - it's as good as we've got at the moment. Might be worth doing at some point though. If you type slowly when you're adding stuff in, you can see if there's already a tag for the term you're using as well.

Jef, I added military and law enforcement to yours because it was about the CRS, although I have a feeling John will take it out and stick repression in instead wink. Also removed some of the capital letters from the title. And took out the tags for the names of the boys because there's unlikely to be more than a couple of articles on them. Noticed you copied the introduction into the main body of the text - no need to do this, it appears in the main article automagically.

There's no rules with the tagging, but as we go along we're trying to develop and refine it. Adding new ones in is completely fine, but if there's already a tag doing the same job then best to avoid duplication where possible.

isnt there a tag index anywhere? If not we should make one which just lists all of them in tiny text so you can hit ctrl f and find if the one u want is there

edit// just read to the bottom of this post - should definetly have a page which just indexes tags.

zobag - protests tag is defunct. for demos we have demonstrations. for things like occupations, strikes, those are more descriptive so no need for an extra vaguer one. if someone could delete the protests tag would be cool.

also, US articles need tag USA added cos north america is well big

zobag - added Coca-Cola to 2 recent articles.

in a few articles corrected it's to its. "Its" is the possessive form of it. It's is abbreviation of it is or it has. This is a note to Joseph K as well!

sorry - deleted narconews. we don't add sources as tags, we just credit somewhere in the text; either at the end of after the Intro saying "Narconews reported that..."
