corporate personhood

This stuff is interesting. Corporations in the United States lay claim to equal protection under the 14th amendment originally designed to protect the civil rights of freed slaves after the American Civil War, but no decision was actually ever made to recognise them as such — the whole institution of corporate personhood (which allows corporations to circumvent state legislation historically designed to limit corporate power as a threat to the economic freedom of individuals) was based on some slippery wording in court reporting. Somewhere along the line someone got confused and corporations got themselves access to the rights of individuals under the American constitution without even a Supreme Court ruling and NO ONE NOTICED. That must be that awe-inspiring love of liberty Al Qaeda are so green-eyed about.
