Liverpool and the Spanish Civil War

I'm currently researching a piece of scholarship focusing on Liverpool's labour movement during the Spanish Civil War.

Does anyone have any information regarding working class catholic opinion on merseyside about the war? i,e the extent to which religious solidarities and political affiliations interacted in a war when catholics and the working classes were seen (correctly or otherwise) to be on opposite sides?

Also, can anyone enlighten me further about the Merseyside Spanish Aid Committee? particularly the campaigns it became involved in except the foodship?
