I saw a poster for this; planned for the backside (!) of that ugly water fountain on Justin Herman Plaza in San Francisco's Financial District, to regail the office workers on lunchbreak with images of noble sacrifice for democracy and similar hogwash.

A number of the panels in the thing that I saw show Abraham Lincoln Brigade soldiers standing in front of the US flag. At least this part of the mural is arguably accurate; they fought for capital.

Dear Mr. Keating:

The Arts Commission is in the process of executing a Memorandum of
Understanding with the Abraham Lincoln Brigrade for the placement of a
memorial in honor of the individuals who fought with the Abraham
Lincoln Brigade in the Spanish Civil War. The memorial will be placed along the
Embarcadero in San Francisco, at the rear of the Vaillancourt Fountain
in Justin Herman Plaza. The memorial will be given as a gift to the City
and is subject to the review and approval of the Arts Commission and the
Port Commission.

Should you require any further information, please contact
Nancy Gonchar, Acting Director at 415- 252-2591, as she is the Arts
Commission staff person who is managing the project. The memorial is
not a mural, but rather a sculptural installation.
