ID Cards

I'm surprised there is not more discussion about ID Cards on this list, especially as the fines and threat of jail for people who refuse to register, refuse to provide biometric data, fail to notify the state when they move etc would seem aimed directly at anarchists and libertarians and greatly decrease the scope of freedoms. This is serious stuff folks, especially when we also couple it with CCTV, echelon system, more use of phone tap evidence, iSps required to keep all emails etc. A national day of action is planned for the 28th but we need to begin building local groups capable of a long campaign (1-2 years, maybe). What's happening out there?

well apparently there's supposed to be a day of action against the ID cards. i read it on liverpool indymedia, but i'm too lazy to go back to it to find out what date it is.

i do, however, remember that there's a meeting about it in Kimo's on mount pleasant at 5.30pm TODAY.

unfortunately i can't make it.

A meeting about ID Cards was held in Liverpool on 6th January and a group loosely calling itself Liverpool Defy-ID Group was formed. Its going to be convening an organising and planning meeting in a week or so and will be trying to organise direct action on the 28th and longer-term action thereafter. Anyone in Liverpool interested in getting involved can contact me via this discussion group or my email.

i've now got a couple of cool stencils to splatter around the 'Pool!!

let us all know when further meetings are going on and all will be good...

i'll try, but i'm not that good with tekkie stuff, so it might not work too well.

I've just slightly modified the downloads from the defy-ID website so they can be stencilled.

oh yeah, if i don't upload them, keep on pestering me, cos i'm notoriously forgetful roll eyes

nice one. we couldn't do the national day of action in manchester so we went for today instead. we built the ministry of truth on market st again and lots of people came up and talked to us and quite a few said they'd come to the public meeting. it amazed me that so many people were angry about it and already well informed. i did think we might actually win this one and get enough people to refuse the card.

anyway, i'll post the link to indymedia as soon as i get round to uploading the pictures. next stop, public meeting 7.30 Friends meeting house, mount st, manchester March 3rd. hopefully it will be lots of ordinary people as well as the usual leftie suspects but everyone, obviously, is welcome.
