FILMS AT BLACKCURRENT

The Revolution Will Not Be Televised – 29th June Start 7.00pm Embattled left-wing President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela has fought off more than one coup attempt since his election in 1999. The most recent of these broke out when a team of Irish filmmakers were in the Presidential Palace. Thousands of protesters responded by defying snipers and taking to the streets.

Introduction by Hands Off Venezuela Campaign

The Take 22nd June

IN Suburban Buenos Aires thirty unemployed auto-parts workers walk into their idle factory, roll out sleeping mats and refuse to leave. All they want is to restart their silent machines. This simple act has the power to turn the globalisation debate on its head. This is aground breaking depiction of the phenomenal rise of the Argentinean movement for workers control. Also, a short film about the Zanon ceramics factory, run by the workers and supported by the local community.
