Norwich Anarchists Students

Norwich Anarchists took the stall to the UEA's Freshers day. There was so much interest with people wanting to 'join' that it was agreed to set up a group at the university. 27 people have 'joined'. wink

Onward and upward! Hopefully our profile and actions will increase with new ideas developing...

Welcome folks... 8)

Norwich Anarchist Students e-mail: ... norwichanarchiststudents@yahoo.co.uk ... We had our first meeting last night, and I will be sorting out the union paperwork for it in the next couple of days (which should mean funding!). You're welcome to put the address on whatever lists you think appropriate.

I will be writing a summary of the first NAS meeting tomorrow, and e-mailing it out to all the people on our e-mail list. It looks like the first thing we might be doing is a 'Free Shop'/'Swap Shop' on campus. If you want to be on the e-mail list, (which is for announcements only), e-mail us and we'll put you on.

Cheers, Rich

Hello,

Just a quick question. What kinda stuff do we get/give away for this 'free shop'? Also there is a 'Marxist' forum at uni soon by those lovely people from the SWP!!! It might be interesting to question them into the ground!! black bloc

The free shop we thought anything that we wanted to give away. So books, cake, music, toys, propaganda!, odd things, etc. We'll probably talk about it more at the next meeting, (which is on Thursday 23rd, 5PM in 1.33).

There seems to be quite alot of SWSS stuff going on. I think it would be good to present an anarchist alternative, as well as doing some questioning! Anarcho_Saint - do you fancy organising something? It's also been suggested that we do an 'Introduction to Anarchism' type thing, for people who want to find out more. If anyone has done something like this before, and want to share their experiences, go ahead! (Will ask main board too.)

Cheers, Rich

Probably will use the AYn intro, but would likesome facts/info. Especially Spain, Kronstadt, etc. Struggles we could put into the forum to show pratical and willing workers uprisings.

Any help from not just NAS members would be gratifully welcommed!!

Lets also start talking to other students around Norwich in other colleges, etc to form groups!!

Si.

P.S. Liam, Solidarity!!! Hehe!!

we're trying to compile a people's history page on www.enrager.net/history with that kind of info - short histories of strikes, workers' councils, uprisings etc., all under 2,000 words, so they can fit on 2 sides of A4.

If you can help find stuff online/in mags or write stuff please do!

You know, the SWP isn't even Marxist, let alone in support of a socialist transitional stage. They support elections and reforms, while they may claim they are 'revolutionary' this is just bullshit used to try and fool people into thinking that they will actually change things(which they wont).

Though what do you mean by fascist? I know they arent that left-wing, but i didnt know they were far-right.

Easy!!!

It was a joke. But as a vanguard party they would surely be looking for true party control. The 'vanguard' group would gain control. Once they become this small committee, they become seperated from the people they are supposed to look out for. Their views and ideas will control the agenda.

And for their support of elections and reforms, surely it would destroy the point of their existence if they did gain control through elections and not become a vanguard. Also I cant have sympathies for a party who had the same leader for over 20 years!

Calling them fascist maybe technically wrong, but any dictatorship, committee or individual, is surely fucking wrong.

Maybe im looking at them a bit pessimistically, but i will never support a group with bolshevik ideas and plans which lead to the people being under another form of tyranny.

In the event that revolution doesn't in fact happen soon though, a strong left wing vanguard party can provide at least a partial countermeasure to the all-out right wing policy we have today, if only by providing a popular backbone for counter-reactionaries. It may not work in terms of true reform or change, but it can help to mitigate things.

What's the phrase... 'My enemy's enemy is my friend'. Churchill I think, but true nonetheless.

Whilst all effort should be made to push them further in our direction (and to keep a wary eye on them lest we forget the Spanish civil war), it should be appreciated that they have a useful role to play.

Nb// no I'm not a member, and I don't particularly like them either, I'm just saying neutral.

hey guys, valid points were raised...but i think ur being a little overly critical of the swp. i personally would rather have them in government than labour or tory (pretty much the same thing these days) who keep on fucking the people indiscriminately. i'm an anarchist, praying hard that i live to see the revolution, but i am not foolish enough to think that there are enough anarchists worldwide to confront the capitalist beast on a dynamic front yet.we need all the help we can get. thats one of the most amazing thing about this movement. a few short years ago we were divided and desperate. now the movement is growing and encompasses various walks of life...feminists,hippies,anarchists,marxists,socialists,unions,students...all of which can be broadly assembled under the banner of anti-capitalism.i'm glad.our diversity is our strength and we'll need everything and everyone when the day of the revolution finally comes. black bloc

ANYWAY.......

It is still best that we start to look outside UEA to the other colleges for more student support. It might also good with the formation of an Ipswich goup and extention of UEA into Ipswich to start looking there too for a wider student movement.
