Wilkos

Yesterday, Saturday 18th October, six members of Norwich Anarchists and Norwich C.W. took a leisurely stroll to the Gt.Yarmouth branch of Wilkinsons armed with leaflets and a mega phone.

As it was decided not to advertise this action, the six easily entered the shopping precinct and into the branch, where they proceeded to blast away on the mega phone and hand out leaflets.

Unlike last time there weren’t enough security on duty so activists had to be carried out (literally) one by one.

Once outside the police arrived who had actually been called by a member of the public due to the security's heavy handedness! They soon left and in the words of one comrade, "People were queuing up for the leaflets..you couldn't have got a better response if you were handing out free beer!"

They stayed an hour and handed out 1000 leaflets.

Congrats to everyone involved in another excellent action!!! grin Let's keep the pressure up on all of the scum who profit from this shite! angry

Norwich Anarchists have hit Wilkinsons, Gt.Yarmouth again Sat 15th Nov

Activists have again pulled off a succesful picket and action at the Great Yarmouth store. Originally the plan was to go to the Kings Lynn branch but as always there wasn't enough cash in the kitty, so it was decided we would have to hit Yarmouth again. Major chaos was caused in this branch and security was pushed to breaking point by a mere six protestors. This time they simply didn't have enough bodies and the activists were running around the store putting stickers over the bar codes and leafletting the shoppers for about an hour.

One activist was again carried off the premises shouting through a mega-phone (we feel they don't like him very much). When eventually they did regain control the activists picketed outside the shopping centre for another hour handing out leaflets. Again the police were called but took no action and the response from the public was good.

The manager made no statement other than "why is it always on a Saturday" and something about his shift...

Norwich Anarchists Students also played an excellent part in this action. grin

Yesterday 20th december 2003, one member of Norwich Anarchist Students and another activist did a similar kinda thing but all the way over at Wilkos, Bletchley, Milton Keynes. After taking some time to actually find the shop a picket proceeded. Being considerably outnumbered by security the activists were quickly ejected from the store where the leafleting and picket continued. A complaint was made to the police who on arrival informed the activists that the action could be construed as 'harrasment' as shoppers could be distressed. This was particularly rude on the part of the police as they interupted 'distressed' shoppers thanking the activivsts for their leaflets and imformative chat. The police then followed the line that the action was "not in the Christmas Spirit" being met with an awkward silence and puzzled expressions from activists and onlookers alike this accusation went no further. Eager to return to a world where onlookers aren't beggining to laugh at them the police argued that shoppers may well not be 'distressed' but the company could be........ laugh out loud too fucking right! At this juncture the activists decided to call it a day and go for a pint.

All in all 200 leaflets were given out and the reception was very good with lots of people wanting to talk about prison labour and a few wondering what Norwich Anarchists are doing so far from home
