Aborigianl riots up north

Looks like communities are still a little tender after the Palm Island affair.

(I just saw a headline on the news ticker tape this morning and googled it at work. I can't find an Oz link. Anyone got one or is it media blackout time?)

Just found this:

Aboriginal adviser appointed to Aurukun

Quote:
The riot forced officers, their families and Aboriginal elders to seek refuge in the police station.

Very interesting that aboriginal elders are sheltering from the community with the cops.

Ha that's great, I hate the way people talk about fucking 'elders' as if we're in lord of the rings or something. In england it's always in asian communities where they have meetings with religious elders as if the most stupidest, medieval-minded asians have some god given right to represent the rest of them - 'it's their way, we shouldn't impose our western ideals on them' fuck off.

Too true. In Australia I'd probably lump elders into a similar basket with union officials - corrupt, mediating fat cats.
