The ALP plumbs new depths

It was always going to be interesting to see what the next low for the ALP would be after extending the income management imposed in the NT as part of the intervention nationwide to get around that pesky Racial Discrimination Act. Seems safe to say that this is it.

As I see it, it's not just that this effectively strips refugees who make it to the Australian mainland of their rights under international refugee conventions, it's that the Australian government remains signatories to the conventions while implementing policies that make no sense other than to achieve the same effect as withdrawing from the conventions without actually having to lose face by doing so.

If it wasn't bad enough that the ALP has taken the baton from Howard in terms of his own attempt to do the same thing in 2006 before being shut down by his own back bench (which would appear to put them to the left of the ALP back bench), and if it isn't bad enough that they're trying to find legal loopholes that could be exploited in this way, they fucking well do it in plain sight while maintaining the pretense that they give a flying fuck about the rights of displaced peoples by remaining signatories to the conventions.

And then on top of all that, last night Wayne Swan, who is obviously tripping balls, came out with this:

What a truly wretched hive of scum and villainy. They couldn't be more nauseating if they tried.
