Industrial Action against off-shoring companies...

http://www.theage.com.au/national/unions-slam-pacific-brands-over-machinery-shipment-20090529-bqb1.html

Recent action that has just gone down in Melbourne...

As much as it may not do much to change the minds of the employers, is it worth focusing our resources on campaigns like this?

I am playing devil's advocate when I ask this question.

Why do you think these types of actions cannot somehow affect employers? Of course you need to do more blocking and damage and mobilize people to avoid fines - which might be quite difficult at this stage. I think that this is quite a legitimate issue since so many industrial jobs are shifted to lower wage areas. People shouldn't go down without at least a fight.

I am personally in favour of these actions and I find that more and more should be occuring...if anything to raise some sort of awareness and air grievances.

The members of the unions and workers who are not members need to get their shit together and organise more actions like this, whether or not the union bosses give the green light or not should not influence the effectiveness of the action.

I think in this case an awareness campaign focusing on the fact that the company received money from the Australian Government and is still exporting jobs overseas could work. Highlighting the possibility that public funds were used to purchase the very machines being exported would be enough to piss anyone off. Would be interesting to see some figures on how much the company has received from the gov.

I am involved with Union Solidarity which notifies me via SMS about the next action in the area that I have made myself available for.

I highly suggest that more Anarcho-whatevers (too many labels lol) get involved as it is a great way of bringing the ideas of community action to workers' action...also a good way to counterbalance some of the wanky Socialist Alternative fuckwits that show their faces. I guess the more people the merrier...eh?

So, union solidarity is back after brief underground hiatus?

While on topic of sociallist alternative, anyone read their 'marxist critique' of the IWW?

Pure gold(gold medal for hilarity/absurdity)

I can't seem to find it online, i can real-life post you the actual copy of it if you want, it's actually kinda funny if you read it as satire of ballot box socialism. But it's not which makes it just plain terrible, you'll palm yourself on the forehead so many times while reading it. The spin on any historical info it has is absurd.

It basically says "syndicalism always did and always will suck because it's not socialist alternative ala 2009"

If you're comfortable with messaging me your post-address i'll send it on tuesday?

You going to the ASF thingy on Sunday??? I might be there...bring a copy so we can sit and read it and revel in its hilarity...lol

By what you have said it sounds like their normal trashing of anything that is not their program let alone "Marxist-Leninnist" (Trot speak: Crypto-Bullshit/Pseudo-Marxist) ideology...

They are nothing but a pack of fucking morons. I remember being at the UFU protest in East Melbourne with Union Solitarity and chatting to a member of the Socialist Alternative...

I asked what he thought of the importance of the Anarcho movement as I was still figuring out if I was A-S in my leaning or just plain out Socialist (non-Trot). He went on some tirade about how the Anarcho movement is dangerous to the anti-capitaist movement as we are essentially to free thinking and some crap about not having a strong sense of unity as a result....I wanted to bitch slap the motherfucker!

Haha. Nah i couldn't make it to the ASF conference, would have liked to have gone, but found out about it too late to get all the days off work(giving myself 2 days there and again back to get to melbourne).

Was there any kind of video/audio recordings? or notes? or an interpretive dance someone could do about it on youtube?

Ha, oh Salt, unity through ruthless factionalism and executive control of membership. Pure genious.
