Solidarity action with Iberia Airlines workers

ASF Melbourne is organising a protest outside of the Spanish Consulate located at 146 Elgin St., Carlton at 4pm on Friday 22 March in support of Iberia Airlines workers who are facing forced redundancies and wage cuts. A call out to all in Melbourne who want to show solidarity.

You would ideally look for some real international worker solidarity here in the UK as IBERIA airline workers are being given the same treatment by the same senior management as was handed out to BA workers here only a short whileback and which was fought against, but for the most part lost then - some lessons to be shared perhaps but solidarity action as opposed to words seems unlikley now in the UK though cross industry, social action in Spain and Portugal might happen?

Just something you should know: there is a big problem now with Iberia since the crap unions called off the strike which was planned over the next few days and made an agreement whereas they accept 3100 job cuts instead of 3800. I expect that the CNT in Iberia will try to continue actions despite this union deal. We can clarify this. I will try to get information out this week, before your action, so you know the status of the struggle.

The ASF Melbourne has been trying to monitor the situation on various English-language media websites. It seems now that the third strike has been called off. There is a reference to 93% of the Iberia Airlines workers returning to work on gulfnews.com

Fair to presume the other 7% are the CNT organised baggage handlers?

There are about 5 unions which do not agree with this, so CNT is one of these unions.
The CNT union there confirmed they do not agree with this but I will not write more about what they said until they publish themselves, because they are in the process of reacting and trying to see what they can organize. Check the ASF mailbox for more info.

The Spanish Consul-General to Victoria, Miguel Gomez de Aranda, demanded to know what the meaning of this protest was. He was given a thorough and detailed explanation.

There is an update on the situation. Our comrades in the CNT union of course do not accept the agreement signed by the unions, which will cut 3141 jobs and impose other cuts on the remaining workers. Together with the union CESHA (a democratic class union), they tried to organize a strike for this week. They were hoping to get some other unions involved (ie. CGT, or a few others) but those were not interested. Because of lack of support, the strike did not get to happen.
