2008-07-05: Global day of action against Starbucks

As many of you might know, the CNT-IWA Sevilla and the IWW "Starbucks Workers Union" branch in Grand Rapids issued a joint call for a Global day of action against the union busting practice of STARBUCKS. (see http://www.starbucksunion.org/node/2017). As we have been told by our Spanish comrades, they are in contact with unions and groups in Argentina, Chile, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the USA so far and they expect some more goups to join into the protest until Saturday. We would like to use this thread to share information about the protests, aka as some sort of little "collective organizer", as there is no other so far. To begin with something I'll give you brief overview of what we will be doing in Germany without going to much into details as the other side propably be reading this too. The FAU-IWA has been already picketing Starbucks in 2006 and 2007 as a protest against the dismissal of wobblie comrades in the USA.

07-05 in Germany

The FAU-IWA will be picketing Starbucks in at least 8 –but propably more– German cities, in some cities we will be present at several Starbucks shops at the same time. We envited other groups to join the protests and are providing them with all sort of German language information including a leaflet template (http://www.fau.org/artikel/pdf/starbucks.odt), a website promo banner (http://www.fau.org/images/starbucks.gif), a video promo trailer in the German (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=juQA7l-kVQ4) and the English (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34pWD9VaURI) language and other stuff. There is a lot of response so far including a major German newspaper, that is preparing an article about image and reality concerning working conditions at Starbucks.
