Bristol Indymedia... Read it, Write it, Your Site, Your News

Even though our newswire carries the banner of 'Read It, Write It, Your Site, Your News...' it seems that not everyone is aware that this means exactly what it says on the tin. The 'Submit An Article' button takes you to our… believe it or not… article submission form. All you need to do is fill in all the 'required fields', including your article, and then click 'submit article' at the bottom of the page. As if by magic your article should then appear on our newswire within minutes of you submitting your article.

Only if your article is outside of, or breaks guidelines, will it be moved to our 'hidden' section. It's not difficult to find our 'hidden' section, but we don’t want to spell out exactly where it is. Apart from that your article will more or less immediately appear on the main newswire.

There’s no vetting procedure beforehand, and no editors who chop and change your article before it appears. Your article may even be turned into a 'front page' feature and put into the middle column with a picture. At this stage it may be edited a little, but a link will be added taking readers back to your full unedited original.

If you’ve never tried your hand at writing articles, it’s not as difficult or as daunting as it seems. Some articles only need to be a few sentences, as long as the info is pertinent enough. Or, for those of you who already have experience at writing articles elsewhere, or at other times in your life, it would be great to see your articles posted up on Bristol Indymedia too.

Sorry, we can't pay you because that's not what we're about, and we don't have much cash to speak of anyway. What we are about is providing a free and open source newswire to anyone who wishes to make use of it. Maintained for your benefit by unpaid volunteers.

Or, if you have an event to promote you can use our calendar too. Again, just like with the newswire, all you need to do is click 'Add Your Event' and follow the instructions, and your event will be automatically and immediately displayed in the calendar. If your event has an interesting report attached to it, then you can turn that into an article too on the main newswire to go with your calendar entry.
