Total Liberty is pretty shit and the guys on their stall at the bookfair were fucking wankers.

Until i threw them away the Global Women's Strike prop/papers in freedom were pretty shit.

I'd say the 'ecology and class' pamphlet, because most of the others at least have historical significance Mr. T

I went for the WOMBLES poster, cos at least the others you either wouldn't see unless you were looking for them or you would only know what was wrong with them if you were fairly well up on your political history. But the WOMBLES poster is just there shoving its wanky dreadlock-sporting, RATM-listening anti-capitalist babble in your face, like it thinks its speaking for all of us.

A couple of other candidates you could have mentioned:

The Manticore - Apart from the fact the Luis Bunuel and Salvador Dali had ok politics, what has surrealism got to do with anarchism?

The Crass pamphlet - Fucking crass

The circled "A" on the window of the autonomy room - Why? It makes the place look even more untidy.

The fact that's its called the autonomy room at all - Could you think of a more shitty name? It's a meeting room/lounge above a bookshop, it serves a purpose, but.. autonomy? Fuck's sake.

The hot tap's cold and the cold tap's hot - Please tell me this is a genuine plumbing problem and not done on purpose to be all subversive.

All of the above but especially Tiocfaidh ar la. roll eyes Even more especially the Tiocfaidh ar larsen issue (burn it first). twisted Really though we need a pr system for voting on this as opposed to a first past the post based on a single choice of one out of an almost equally horrendous list - or better still get rid of all of them - just like we'd like to do with politicians. Don't vote - Organise! smile

Oh Laz, and only recently you seem to have been talking sense about class. Anyway, the 'ecology and class' pamphlet is a historical document.

'cos it's mostly old organise articles. wink

I went for the pro-govt firefighters poster. I remember when Fash Edge (aka cantdocartwheels) tried to stick it up, saying it was a good poster!!! Fucking Fair Trade liberals...

I actually wanna rip it up and destroy it...would anyone object??

I'm still waiting for the grand loo refurb...

Though the little note apologising for the current state of the toilet is pretty much pointless after several months...

But you know at least they made the front door look pretty. And then there's that really classy "Cl circle A ss W circle A r" crucifix type thing in the alley, thats quality.

Should drop the Bey and get some cheap copies of Capital in there instead, even if it's only in the used section.

Put it this way.... last time I was in there was to get the new Direct Action, and I thought, sod it, I'll see what else there is so I can make my total spend up to a nice round fiver.

Who could find anything else he wanted......? wink

surely the copy of the armed joy pamphlet and the other few mad insuurectionists texts in there

Look, basically Freedoms a great resource and needs peoples support and input. Theres a lot of shite stocked but then that lot of shite is actually a lot less shite than most 'proper' bookshops. Yeah its a bit run down, yeah people keeping the place going should put more thought into what they stock but...

BTW I still haven't voted, I can't really vote for tiocfaidh ar lar over the book by Bey.

In response to Jack, yeah we supplied Freedom with 10 of each of our pamphlets at the Anarchist Bookfair, so it should be in stock. Excuse revol68s ignorance of this sometimes he doesn't remember the things hes been told when hes drunk.

its an awesome poster, it seems reformist but its subtly inviting people to overthrow the govt ion favour of industrial democracy

Linux - What the fuck is wrong with using fucking Windows, anyway?

linux is more stable, which while generally may be irrelevant, it becomes important when you want to watch films. for instance it gets annoying when the legendary weapons of kung fu keeps freezing during awesome fight scenes, which is what happens on my computer with windows, but doesn't on my flatmate's which uses linux.

Quote:
Vernon Richards' photobooks - Some examples - the book dedicated to pictures of his girlfriend (who he met when she was 13) printed with anarchist money or the one with a couple of pictures of George Orwell fondling his kids (presumably).

my dad bought the george orwell one for me the first time i went to freedom as a birthday present. it's not that bad, if you like george orwell it's quite interesting.

but otherwise the rest is shit. especially the wombles poster, which i haven't seen as i've not been there for ages, but any three words from that quote alone a grounds for it, it's designer, their mother, anyone they ever met and all record of their existence being eradicated...

Is this a thought out reaction to their politics or just some sort of prejudicial knee-jerk response ?

Please can you say why you think this?

OK, so the anarchist bookfair presumably has a wide range of peoples' views and different strands of anarchism there, but this kind of commentary is not going to encourage people with different viewpoints to attend.

Is it just a monolithic or a single strand movement with a set out party line and no deviations allowed that you want to see?

however broad your definition of anarchism is, surely it doesnt include stalinism?!

Gav/RKN/Steve

What ever people think of Total Liberty it is not stalinist and neither are the Global Women's Strike lot for that matter (at least not the comrades I've had dealings with in the past). Anarchism needs/has lots of different voices; I think that's one of its strength. Some I don't agree with (indivdualists), some I don't even get (like christian anarchism) but I think they all have a place (anarcho-capitalists don't though: that's not anarchism). I think TL represents a legitmate strand in anarchism. I know the guy who edits it. He's certainly not a wanker. He has done a lot over the years to buld anarchism particularly community based stuff, although it is fair to say he probably isn't a subscriber to Class War!!
