Spam post: http://libcom.org/news/watch-germany-vs-greece-live-stream-free-uefa-euro-2012-now-22062012

Spammer: http://libcom.org/user/956857

Did anything ever happen about the idea of making new users make 25 posts before they can post links?

EDIT: just found another 15 or so threads that have been made in the last 20 minutes by multiple users spamming the same text about the footie. I haven't logged all the posts, and the users, in this thread; I've reported everything instead.

Too many to log, at least 30.
Also, images disappeared all over site.

Yeah, I'm trying to keep up. Probably have banned 7-8 users and deleted 15-20 threads.

'Floorrug22', selling Australian floorrugs.

Did anything ever come of the suggestion to limit the ability to post links?

An alternative would be to give members the ability to send posts to some moderation bin. We could flag things as spam so they disappeared, then a mod could either finally delete or re-instate them.

yeah nice one everyone we can't thank you enough for your help.

We are working on ways of dealing with spam more effectively behind-the-scenes and should hopefully have something to announce shortly

The change in format has allowed the instant reporting of spam, which is great - but for the sake of tradition, as this is the thread to report spammers rather than spam, this user - http://libcom.org/user/1047089 - is trying to sell 'flitflops' which I assume is flipflops.

So all it takes are X folks reporting a post for spam, and it gets unpublished? That's pretty sweet.

Yep, we're just fiddling with 'X' to get the right balance.

That's right. Although we are keeping an eye on who reports posts as spam, so people who abuse it to report non-spam posts as spam can be warned and then banned if they are doing it maliciously.

It's probably fine to leave them unpublished. we can mass cull if there's any reason to do so.

that said, the best thing to do would be to click "report to mollom", then click the button to report it to mollom and delete it. That way it helps the forums stay tidy and helps improve our spam protections in future. (A mass cull of unpublished posts would be problematic, as some we have unpublished for other reasons and may like to re-publish one day)
