Organization vs. Mobilization

Here's an article critiquing the "mobilization model" of activism, which seems to be the de facto strategy for most of the Left in the past few generations. To sum the model up, it's basically about mobilizing the greatest number of people out to a protest or event.

As an alternative strategy, the author (Ajamu Nangwaya) recommends organization - building long-term organizations of struggle rooted in neighborhoods and workplaces.

For most of the Libcom regulars, this won't be anything new, but the article is a good intro to this concept if you want something to share on Facebook, with friends, etc. It's written in the context of the response to the murder by police of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.
