Thoughts/suggestions for supporting prisoner resistance and a politics of prison abolition?

I am currently part of a group that is trying to get some things off the ground in terms of supporting prisoner resistance. I believe that the IWOC form is great -- that prisoners call the shots and self organize, while we on the outside are to play a supporting role. However, I am wondering what everyone thinks about what this support entails? I have heard a great deal about trying to help facilitate communications, between inmates and their families and friends, as well as between inmates in different prisons. I have also been hearing a lot about media outreach -- to get inmates' messages out there. Both of these are good avenues to pursue as far as I know, but I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience or in general any suggestions that may be relevant?

And how can we explicitly connect this support work with a wider politics of prison abolition?

Can a mod possibly move this to the organize forum?
