Ireland: Energy workers plan strikes
Workers at the Electricity Supply Board are currently threatening strike action against potential privatisation.
The main reason for the action is the government-backed plans for the distribution of electricity, selling the network to Eirgrid, a state-owned private limited company, which workers see as a step towards privatisation and a loss of the rights held by state employees.
Ireland: Nurses' rolling strikes continue
Nurses across Ireland are taking strike action to support their claim for a 10% pay rise and a 35 hour week.
The actions, organised by the INO (Irish Nurses organisation) and the PNA (Psychiatric Nurses Organisation) which have a total of over 40000 members, have had two main elements so far. A well-observed work-to rule and a series of one-hour stoppages over the last three weeks in 11 institutions.
Ireland: Domino's drivers on strike
Workers at the Tallaght branch of Domino's Pizza went on strike Friday night over wages.
Around 50 drivers refused to work the evening shift on Friday from 5pm, they then picketed out workers at the Walkinstown branch from 8pm, persuading around seven drivers to come out despite management threats that they would sack any drivers who joined the strike. The picket ended at 9pm due to bad weather at which point drivers from both branches went home.

Rossport Shell camp: Community under siege
Protests take place in Irish cities as state forces move in support of Shell.
Friday October the sixth saw protests in Galway, Cork, Belfast and at four locations in Dublin in response to the increased police presence at Shell’s refinery construction site in Mayo. At least two of the solidarity actions were visited by Special Branch. Several other protests have also taken place around the country in the last week.
Call for support as anti-Shell picket faces repression
Latest news from the struggle against Shell in the West of Ireland, as the state prepares to strike.
The month of September was the month Shell had chosen to re-take their refinery construction site in Ballinaboy, Mayo, in the west of Ireland. They failed.
The refinery has been shut down since July 2005 by pickets involving the local community and activists from Rossport Solidarity Camp.
Rail workers wildcat in Cork
Maintenance staff at Kent Station in Cork have been on strike since mid-day Tuesday.
The workers were asked to work replacement instead of maintenance rosters, which would normally entitle them to additional pay. They have recieved support from other Irish Rail workers, with pickets in place from 3pm Tuesday, and spokesmen from their employers saying disruption will continue "until further notice".
