The GMB Union has accused JJB of illegally breaking a strike by warehouse workers at its Wigan depot.

JJB, the sports retailer owned by former footballer and Wigan Athletic FC Chairman Dave Whelan, has been accused by the GMB union of breaking laws that prohibit employment agency staff from doing the jobs of strikers.

Postal workers in Canada have refused to handle a homophobic pamphlet that was produced by a Christian fundamentalist group.

Neither rain, nor hail, nor sleet, nor snow nor refusal to deliver an anti-gay pamphlet will keep the mail from getting through.

That seemed to be the message yesterday from Canada Post in reacting to a brief walkout over the letter carriers union's refusal to deliver a pamphlet the union regards as "homophobic" and "hate mail."

FE lecturers on strike in Northern Ireland

Further Education lecturers in Northern Ireland have been on strike this week over pay parity with schoolteachers.

Lecturers in England, Wales and Scotland have equivalent pay to schoolteachers. However due to "government caps on public sector pay", they fall around £2,500/year behind in Northern Ireland. Lecturers are involved in an ongoing work-to-rule and "withdrawal of goodwill" at all 16 Further Education colleges, with Monday's strike action the fourth in recent weeks.

Ryanair workers take industrial action

Ryanair workers are taking industrial action in Spain and Italy this week.

In Italy, workers are refusing to sell all "extras", such as hot drinks, food and alcohol on flights. This allows them to hurt Ryanair's profits - "extras" made up €115m of Ryanair's after-tax profits last year - whilst keeping passenger inconvenience to a minimum.

Passport workers strike

Passport workers across the country are striking today over a pay dispute, with the workforce also engaged in an ongoing work to rule.

Up to 2,500 members of PCS working for the Identity and Passports Service (IPS) across the UK will be on strike today (13 Oct), causing severe disruption to passport processing in a dispute over pay.
