Sacked union convenor reinstated at Linamar Swansea
Rob Williams, the union convenor sacked at the Linamar plant in Swansea, has been reinstated just hours before plant workers were due to go on strike.
Workers at the Linamar (formerly Visteon) plant were due to begin strike action at 6am this morning. Workers had overwhelmingly voted in support of an indefinite 'all-out' strike, with the chief demand being the reinstatment of their fellow worker and union convenor. The vote had an 88% turn-out.
Linamar workers in Swansea to strike this Thursday
Workers at the Linamar plant in Swansea are set to strike this Thursday in support of sacked union convenor Rob Williams.
Following recent news that workers in Swansea's Linamar (formerly Visteon) plant had overwhelmingly voted in favour of industrial action in support of sacked union convenor Rob Williams, it was announced last week that the indefinite all-out strike is set to begin at 6am Thursday 11 June.
Swansea Linamar workers to strike in support of sacked convenor
Workers at the Linamar plant in Swansea have voted in favour of an all-out strike in support of sacked union convenor Rob Williams.
Following the sacking of Unite union convenor Rob Williams at the Swansea Linamar plant, other workers have voted to strike to have their colleague reinstated. It is understood that turnout for the vote was 88%, with 139 voting 'yes' in support of the strike, and 19 voting 'no' against it.

Sacked traffic wardens continue protest in Belfast
Protests continued today for former Belfast traffic wardens after 26 were sacked in April for taking part in unofficial strike action.
Around 30 people were present at today's protest, made up of the sacked workers, supporters from Organise! and representatives from the union representing the workers, the Northern Ireland Public Service Alliance (Nipsa). The protests are now a daily occurrence on May Street in Belfast, where the offices of the employer National Car Parks (NCP) are located.
University union suspends ballot over job security and pay
The University and College Union (UCU) has suspended its ballot for industrial action over pay and job security until autumn.
Following notification that 78 higher education (HE) employers intend to use anti-trade union laws against UCU, the union has announced that it is suspending the ballot for industrial action that had be due this month.
University bosses get massive pay rises despite 'tough times'
Unions are angry as university bosses received an average pay rise which vastly exceeds current pay offer to employees.
Unions have expressed distaste at the news that university senior managers (Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Deans, Registrar and Chief Operating Officer, and Support Directors) received a pay increase in 2008 of 5.5%. This comes after the University and College Employers Association (UCEA) this week offered higher education (HE) unions 0.3% pay rise this year.

A union convenor at the Linamar Plant in Swansea, formerly owned by Ford Visteon has locked himself in his office after being sacked.
Rob William, a Unite union convenor and vice-chair of National Shop Stewards Network, has been sacked at the Swansea Linamar plant today for supporting the sacked Ford/Visteon workers in Belfast, Basildon and Enfield. The convenor has locked himself in his office at the plant and is refusing to leave.
