Obama and the Egyptian struggle for democracy
US President Barack Obama’s military regime (for as commander-in-chief of the world’s largest military machine, his is not merely a mild “administration”), has proven once again that when it comes to American imperialism’s dealing with the darker majority of humanity, having a black man in the Oval Office simply doesn’t matter.
As we argued in the last edition of Zabalaza, the widespread myth that Obama’s skin-colour automatically made him a better man was a deeply racist argument that would be proven to be threadbare as soon as Obama ordered the invasion of his first “country of colour” – and this happened in under a month of his inauguration when he authorised sending 17,000 extra troops to Afghanistan.
Landless People's Movement Attacked in Soweto
The Landless People's Movement (LPM) has been attacked in Soweto, Johannesburg. Their partners in the Poor People's Alliance (PPA), Abahlali baseMjondolo (AbM) were attacked in Durban in September last year. Information is still sketchy at this point but it could well be that the attacks are part of a broader crack down on popular movements by the African National Congress.

Resistance not ballots; mass organisation not authoritarian leaders
The Zabalaza Anarchist Communist Front issue a call for fidelity to the Poor People's Alliance 'No Land! No House! No Vote' campaign as the 2011 elections loom in South Africa.

The Social Question: Latin American Anarchism and “Social Insertion” - Michael Schmidt
Latin American anarchist organizations, especifismo and involvement in mass movements
The most crucial issue facing the global anarchist movement today is not only how to win the battle for the leadership of ideas among the anti-capitalist movement, but how to ensure that direct action, mutual aid, collective decision-making, horizontal networks, and other principles of anarchist organising become the living practices of the social movements.
The Jacob Zuma Cargo Cult and the “Implosion” of Alliance Politics
Michael Schmidt, from the Zabalaza Anarchist Communist Front, takes apart the Jacob Zuma cargo cult...
Much printers’ ink has been shed by pundits and politicians in attempting to explain, excuse, laud or condemn the rise of Jacob Zuma to the ANC Presidency from where it is just a short hop, skip and jump to the South African Presidency following the 2009 General Election.
