Walmart organise food collections for employees in hardship

You would be forgiven for thinking that this post is an April fool’s joke… Walmart are holding a holiday ‘canned food drive’. So that employees ‘in need’ can enjoy a thanksgiving dinner. Walmart claim it’s a positive move and typical of the organisations caring culture. The workers have a different take on it.

A Walmart lickspittle believes that the ‘canned food drive’ is a positive thing:

Quote:
“This is part of the company’s culture to rally around associates and take care of them when they face extreme hardships. I could not be prouder of people in that store, helping people in touch situations.”

There must be a huge polished oak boardroom table somewhere with the Walton family sat around it and pissing themselves laughing at the people who work for them. A family whose fortune equates to the wealth to the bottom 42% of all Americans running a fucking ‘canned food drive’?

Walmart is one of the largest and most profitable organisations in the world, yet pays over 450,000 of their valued ‘associates’ less than the federal poverty line ($23,550). Workers at an average sized Walmart store receive $1.2 million a year in welfare payments to take them above the poverty line.

An employee at the store, unhappy at the move, had this to say:

Quote:
“That Walmart would have the audacity to ask low-wage workers to donate food to other low-wage workers -- to me it is a moral outrage. The company needs to stand up and give them their 40 hours and a living wage, so they don't have to worry about whether they can afford Thanksgiving,"

Workers and their supporters are planning a series of strikes and protests for ‘black Friday’, the day after thanksgiving, which is traditionally the start of the Christmas shopping season.

Solidarity with everyone who works at Walmart!
