Crowd Riots After Los Angeles Police Shut Down Block Party, Movie Premiere
A police car was set on fire and crowds fought in Los Angeles Wednesday night after the LAPD shut down an impromptu "block party" because thousands of people who showed up refused to disperse.
DJ Kaskade was to perform at the party at Grauman's Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, prior to the premiere of a documentary about the Electric Daisy Carnival, KTLA-TV reported.
The premiere was also canceled after crowds began throwing bottles and fighting, with some jumping on police cars. An LAPD cruiser was set alight in the chaos.
Kaskade, whose real name is Ryan Raddon, announced the event using Twitter Wednesday afternoon, and later used the social networking site to urge people to stay calm.
"EVERYONE CHILL NOW!!! The block party has officially been shut down! BUT THIS IS TOO CRAZY AND WE NEED TO BE SAFE!," Kaskade tweeted.
"I AM REALLY CONCERNED FOR EVERYONES SAFETY AT THIS POINT! PLEASE RELAX," he added later.
"EVERYONE NEEDS TO GO HOME NOW! I DON'T WANT THIS TO REFLECT BADLY ON EDM OR WHAT WE ARE ABOUT. BE RESPECTFUL AND CHILL OUT!!!
