Violence at Iranian mayday celebrations
Security forces attacked workers celebrating May Day in different cities across Iran.
In Tehran, in which only the government-sponsored Workers’ House is legally permitted to hold rallies, thousands of workers with independent slogans participated in the event at the Shiroodi (former Amjadie) stadium and did not let the official event conclude. Alireza Mahjoub, the head of the Workers’ House, was interrupted by chanting workers and could not finish his speech.

More Iranian teachers arrested
45 teachers of the province of Hamadan were arrested on Sunday April 8th 2007 and then transferred to an unknown location.
According to the Teachers’ Trade Association of Iran’s website and other reliable sources, about 30 of the arrested teachers were arrested in the office the teachers’ Trade Association of Hamadan and a number of other educators were arrested in their homes and other places; this included all members of the board of directors of the association in Hamadan.
Iran: 1,000 teachers arrested
Around 1,000 teachers have been arrested in Iran following strikes and protests last week.
Iran has clamped down on teachers following strikes of 100,000 last week and a 10,000 strong picket outside parliament. These mass arrests come after six teachers' union leaders were arrested during International Womens Day events.The teachers strike last week was the largest workers' action in recent years, and possibly since the revolution of 1979.
Iran: International Women's Day events defy repression
A report by the Organisation for Women's Liberation - Iran's (OWL) Maryam Kousha on events across the country, which have seen womens' liberation struggles build links with striking workers and Afghan refugees.
People in Iran welcomed 8th March this year by organising many events well ahead of the actual day in different cities all over the country. It culminated in major gatherings on Thursday, international women's day. People were passionate about the day, had prepared manifestos, resolutions and banners demanding equality, condemning gender apartheid and women's oppression.
Iran: Teachers strike joined by factory workers
On Monday 5th March, about 100,000 teachers went on strike. On 8th March 10,000 teachers staged a picket outside the Parliament building in Tehran demanding justice and better wages.
According to the Organisation for Womens' Liberation, "all along the regime has refused to meet their demands. On 8th March (International Women's Day), many students and the women's movement showed their solidarity with the teachers. Many 8th march leaflets were distributed among the demonstrators.

Workers strike at Iran's largest shipbuilding company
On January 30, 2007, the entrance to the Iran Sadra (SADRA- Iran Marine Industrial Co.) in its Bushehr Yards Ship Building was shut down by about 150 workers of the company in the City of Bushehr who were protesting the sacking of 38 of their colleagues as well as the short temporary contracts.
According to one of the representatives of workers, Ranjbarian, the strike was spontaneous. Workers are sacked by the employer despite previous protests as well as meetings in the governor's office to create employment opportunities for laid off employees.
Imprisoned Iranian trade unionist released
Mansour Osanloo, leader of the Iranian bus workers' union, was today released from prison on bail after being imprisoned since November 19th.
The ITUC and the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) today welcomed the release of detained Iranian trade unionist Mansour Osanloo, while deploring the fact that he had to post additional bail to ensure his release. Osanloo was already on bail of 150 million Toman (US$ 165,000), stemming from his previous detention by the authorities from 22 December 2005 to 9 August 2006.
