Manchester Class Struggle Forum #4 - The Organisation Question

The next Manchester Class Struggle Forum will host a forum on the organisation question.

Submitted by Manchester Cla… on May 10, 2010

Some things to consider:

- Do we need a party?
- Centralism vs Federalism, what do we mean by centralism?
- What kind of party? Mass? Vanguard? Substitutionist?
- Role of the party.
- Basis for Unity.

Stimulating literature:

'The Commune, Paris 1871', published in Solidarity and jointly written by Philippe Guillaume - http://www.marxists.org/archive/brinton/1961/05/paris-commune.htm

'Another Look at The Organisation Question', Communist Bulletin Group - http://thecommune.wordpress.com/2010/02/28/another-look-at-the-organisation-question-communist-bulletin-group/

'The Role of The Revolutionary Organisation', A-Fed - http://www.afed.org.uk/publications/pamphlets-booklets/63-the-role-of-the-revolutionary-organisation.html

The meeting will take place from 7pm on Thursday 3rd of June at Friends Meeting House, 6 Mount Street, Manchester M2 5NS. Email [email protected] or ring 07976386737 to express your interest or ask for more info.

Another short text worth reading for this might be 'Bordiga versus Pannekoek' by Antagonism Press in the Libcom Library.

The issue seems settled. Why ask the first question?

Hello fort, thanks for commenting. These points were originally given to the person who shall be giving the opening lead off who I know is in favour of a party of some sort. Members of Solidarity Federation should be present and I very much hope that people will be arguing that a 'party' is not needed.

Actually, istm, the first question is "what IS a 'party'?"

That's what I was getting at with my questions on the role and nature of this 'party'.

Thanks,
Mark

I'm hoping that some sort of write-up of this meeting, of the different positions taken and arguments made there, will be posted here. Is there a plan (or at least intention) to do so? I would be very much interested in reading such.

I'd also love to see a summary of the discussion. It's a question that's been on my mind a lot lately.

This is tomorrow, we will be in a different room that usual. Smaller room, nearer the entrance. I failed to mention in the blurb that posi from these boards and a member of The Commune shall be providing lead off.
