A group consisting of several collectives and individuals organized as "The Free Association" (Voľná asociácia) recently put up this call for donations to help fund a new collectively-run space in Bratislava (Slovakia):
Bratislava, Slovakia is home to several initiatives from below which focus on queer liberation, climate and environmental crises, the right to the city, or workplace struggles. However, there is currently no physical space dedicated to emancipatory politics. To organize public events, workshops and community activities, expensive venues have to be booked, often months in advance. This consumes a lot of resources in terms of both money and time.
We came together in the Winter of 2022 around the idea of creating a common space for coordinating our activities: education and discussions, public screenings, workshops, group meetings, and sports. We are groups and individuals organizing around and against the climate crisis, oppression of queer people, and wage labor. We view our efforts as part of a common fight for a world without domination. Our aim is to create an inclusive, safe, and collectively-run space independent of political parties, corporate sponsors, and state-controlled grants.
In the Fall of 2023, we were able to rent a space perfect for our purposes. Its funding will be sustainable in the long term thanks to regular contributions by the individuals and collectives involved.
At the moment, however, we need funds to properly renovate and equip the space. This will involve alterations to its layout, new floors, electrical lines, sanitary installations, lighting, furniture, media equipment, a kitchen, etc. We are able to provide most of the labor as well as many tools. Still, lots of materials have to be bought and some of the work must be done by hired professionals.
