13 May 2019, London, Capital Volume 2 Reading Group

Submitted by critisticuffs on January 21, 2019

We are starting a new weekly reading group on Volume Two of Capital - A Critique of Political Economy by Karl Marx.

This reading group is open to anyone who has previously read Volume 1 of Capital, i.e. you don't have to have read it with us. As it may be some time since many people read Volume 1, we will spend the first two meetings doing a walkthrough of Volume 1 with a view towards what is needed for Volume 2.

The aim of this reading group is not to cover a lot of material per session, but to go as slow as necessary so that we all can get a good understanding of the arguments. Questions are encouraged and answers and
discussions should develop. Thus, we plan to read and discuss selected paragraphs of first four chapters together. For later chapters we propose to condense the material a bit in the form of summaries and presentations.

We will be reading the Penguin edition which was translated by David Fernbach. If anyone is unable to secure a copy, let us know and we'll see if we can arrange copies of the first chapter at least.

The first meeting of the reading group will be on *Monday, 13 May at 7pm* (to 9.30pm) at

Red Lion (Upstairs)
41 Hoxton Street
London, N1 6NH

We then plan to meet weekly on Mondays, same place.

If you want to take part, please send us an e-mail at [email protected] so that we can add you to the mailing list for the reading group.
