ICC day of discussion on the Russian revolution, November 11 2017, London

International Communist Current

Day of discussion on the Russian Revolution
Saturday 11 November 2017, May Day Rooms, 88 Fleet Street, London EC4Y 1DH, 11am to 6pm

One hundred years after the October insurrection in Russia, we will be holding a day of discussion about the relevance of the Russian revolution for the class struggle today. We will look at its historic importance as a first step towards the world revolution against capitalism, at its huge political and organizational achievements, as well as the tragic process of its degeneration and defeat.

Presentations will be given both by the ICC and the comrades of the Communist Workers Organisation. We also hope that the debate will include other groups and individuals who are trying to understand history - and what the future holds in store for us - from the standpoint of the working class.

We can give some details about the proposed format for the meeting:

11am-11.30: introduction to the day of discussion by the ICC

11.30am - 2.30pm: presentation by the Communist Workers Organisation on the proletarian nature of the Bolshevik party and the October insurrection, followed by discussion, with a 1 hour lunch break in between

2.30-5.30: ICC presentation on the degeneration of the revolution, followed by discussion

5.30: conclusions

We repeat our invitation to the comrades of the AF and other groups and posters on this site to come and put forward your views on the October revolution.....

I don't wish to be rude, but this looks like 6 hours of presentations rather than discussion. Can attendees put forward their views earlier in the day or do they have to wait for the conclusions?

If it looks like that, it's badly written. The main focus is the discussions. The presentations should be a maximum of 30 minutes.

The CWO gave their presentation at the bookfair meeting on the Russian revolution, then we heard Anarcho's response, then the fire alarm went and the meeting was over. The discussion can continue at the 11 November meeting.

It seems that the bourgeoisie is deliberatey trying to sabotage our meeting by commanding the Lord Mayor's Parade to march past the May Day rooms around the time we start. I've phoned the organisers however and they don't think that the streets leading to the venue will be blocked, but anyone coming should expect having to get through the crowds who have come to witness the flummery.

I've posted the link on our own forum thread about the meeting, Alf, where the 'SPGB comrade's' report seemed to be approving.

It was interesting and (unlike some ICC meetings in the past) good-humoured.

Are we slowly inching closer to deepening Crump's thin red line that i keep going on about.

Actually, I tried to respond but the speaker kept interrupting me -- clearly not interested in genuine debate but rather making it as hard as possible for libertarians to respond to the nonsense being spoken.

For my take on the meeting, see my blog: On the Russian Revolution (A letter from Kropotkin, 1920).

The bookfair meeting was the CWO's; the ICC meeting was a different one
