Youtube videos not displaying

Submitted by Mark. on March 12, 2017

I'm wondering why youtube videos aren't showing up for me here. I'm using an ipad with iOS 10.2.1. They were appearing for me a few days ago after a long time not showing up, but disappeared again after I cleared website data.

Hi, sorry could you give a link to the page where it's not working, and post up a screenshot?

They never show up for me, something to do with http/https I thought.

I've no idea how to post up a screenshot. I'm looking at the Spanish dock workers union thread but it's the same with all youtube videos. I just get a blank white space where the video should display. The odd thing isn't so much that I can't see them as that they reappeared and then disappeared again. I've only had the problem on this site. That's why I post up the youtube links as well, on the basis that not everyone will be able to see embedded videos.

hmm they are working okay for me in that thread. In the address bar, does the address start "http" or "https"? If it is "https" try removing the "s"

I get that when viewing on my phone though on the computer it's fine. For that reason it's probably good practice to embed the video but also provide a link.

"https", and yes it works when I remove the "s" - thanks.

Likewise, for me doesn't always display, but does (after changing the input format to Full HTML).

The simplest way to ensure that YT videos always display (it seems to me) is:

Right-click on the video, select Copy Embed Code, and then paste the link on here, it will resemble something like this:

and then, below the comment box, select Input format, then change it to Full HTML.

if you are using firefox it blocks insecure parts when viewing a secure page. eg one with a https not http, you can make them show on a secure page by clicking on the litle i in a circal next to the padlock icon to the left of the address bar, clicking the arrow on the box that pops up and clicking disable protection for now

That may be a workaround but the video is massive and spills out over the posting box which is not very aesthetically satisfying.

Woo hoo, I've done it, there's a little icon with a red cross through it and you have to click it and chose "load unsafe sources" and I've done it and all the videos show in all their youtubey glory.

You can edit the height and width, e.g.
