I thought I would start a thread for any good literature about the United Arab Emirates. There isn't much on libcom at the moment and the only thing I have read thus far is the possibly fictional long-read by Johann Hari...
It's been a long time ago since I read this book, but perhaps there is something on the UAE in it.
Aburish, Said K.: A Brutal Friendship: The West and the Arab Elite. IIRC, most of his biographies of Arab leaders are pretty good.
The United Arab Emirates and Poland-Lithuania compared and why sunshine and newspapers do not mix.
The story of Princess Latifa, daughter of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who attempted to escape Dubai in early 2018 but was captured.
Yeah, I wouldn't say I know much of any importance about UAE but my first port of call would be to Middle East Eye. From a quick look it mostly looks like news articles but there might be something more in depth in there.
Al Jazeera as well.
Looks like there are a couple of documentaries on Youtube as well but no idea how good they are:
