Tom Devine's latest book 'The Scottish Clearances: A History of the Dispossessed, 1600-1900' and his previous 'Clearance and Improvement' argue that the clearances were Scottish wide, and not just Highland. Indeed, while there were regional differences, clearances, evictions and enclosures were UK wide.
