Erich Mühsam and Emma Goldman

Submitted by smush on January 3, 2016

Hello - does anyone know if Erich Mühsam and Emma Goldman met and/or corresponded and if so, has someone written about it?

There are a couple of references in Gabriel Kuhn's book on Mühsam ("Liberating Society from the State and Other Writings: A Political Reader") where here writes about "dear Emma" and "comrade Emma". But nothing more. Does anyone have more details? Cheers

The Emma Goldman papers at the International Institute of Social History include some correspondence (in German) between Goldman and Erich Mühsam and his partner Zenzl from the period 1929 – 1935. These letters can be viewed online at https://search.socialhistory.org/Record/ARCH00520.

Although, as Emma remarks: "It is shere [sic] torture for me to write long letters in German. . . . it takes me more time to write one letter in German than five in English."

wow, thank you so much Karetelnik! Amazing stuff (also the reference to Fritz Brupbacher in the letter by Arthur Müller-Lehning - i had never heard of Brupbacher!)

If anyone stumbles across this thread: the following PDF contains correspondence between Emma Goldman and Zenzl and Erich Mühsam and his partner Zenzl: "http://bit.ly/1StqAgL" Pages: 63-99
