new minimum wage

Submitted by AngryWorkersWorld on April 9, 2016

ciao,

a friend of ours who works in a local warehouse just showed us his first payslip after the introduction of the new minimum wage. he used to earn £7 per hour, now the rate is £7.20. the company first sent him a payslip with the old rate, then corrected to the new rate. the peculiar thing is that while the £7 rate slip showed no NI deductions, on the new rate he had a weekly deduction of £5 for NI - ending up earning less than before! we wait for our pay slips and see what happened to those who earned the previous minimum wage.

a similar thing happened when they increased from £6.50 to £6.70 - they recalculated my working tax credit (after short spell of unemployment) and i ended up having the same if not less money per week with the 'increased' minimum wage...

any other experiences?
