Energy Supply Chains: Working Class Solidarity & Stopping the Dakota Access Pipeline

This Energy Supply Chain Worker Inquiry is an interactive workshop where participants will brainstorm ways for solidarity to follow energy supply chains and model ways for worker resistance, community solidarity, and direct action to flow from the point of extraction of Bakken Shale from the Williston Basin in North Dakota to points of further processing/refining and consumption of both intermediate – feedstock – and finished crude oil products, including all the communities where the commodities pass through and all the workers arrayed along the chain. The goal is to demonstrate how working class solidarity with the struggle against the pipeline’s effect on the Standing Rock Reservation can spread and strengthen the fight to stop it. Our power as workers increases when everyone acts in unison; it expands exponentially when solidarity actions spread down the chain, crossing sectors, reaching new communities, and even spanning continents. Our goal is gaining a greater understanding of fossil fuel commodity chains as they presently exist and how we can better connect struggles along them locally and globally. We will provide maps of supply chains and flowcharts of the links between work sectors, and other necessary materials.
