Randolph Denard Ornette Coleman (born 9 March 1930), free jazz pioneer, died today (11 June 2015) in Manhattan.
Here's the New York Times obituary: "Ornette Coleman, Jazz Innovator, Dies at 85"
The most amazing musical performances I've ever attended were the couple times I saw Ornette's double quartet at fairly small clubs. Hearing his harmolodics was truly mind blowing.
