Looks like Workers Power is no more

Submitted by Battlescarred on November 1, 2015

The long standing Trotskyiist group Workers Power appears to have dissolved itself.

It appears to have fallen victim to Corbynism. Previous splits from Workers Power,- Permanent Revolution, AntiCapitalist Initiative-, also dissolved themselves in the course of the last few years.

Hmm. That blog post, itself fairly tongue in cheek, posts an extract from a 2012 piece "Who are Proletarian Democracy?" without really making it clear that that piece is clearly a piece of sectarian satire from people who should really get a hobby or something. Not sure how reliable a guide it is to the current state of WP, tbh.

Militant Tendency 2.0

Even a House of Commons of 630 Jeremy Corbyns would not be enough to legislate capitalism out of existence,

differences with the SPGB? how dare they!

because faced with a mortal threat to their profits and privileges the ruling class would use all means at their disposal to restore their order, including a military coup.
A left-wing Labour government should not accept the sabotage of the rich, but should be a workers’ government and take power out of the hands of the unelected civil servants, CEOs, security chiefs and generals.
We need a mass party committed to revolution, which will mean the forcible dispossession of the ruling class through direct action from below, breaking up their unelected apparatus of coercion, taking power into the hands of workers’ councils and a working class defence force.
Today hundreds of thousands of people are changing British politics. Soon millions can change Britain. All together, we can bring down the Tories and open the road to a working class government and a social revolution.

Yes, so now they're deep entrists operating under the name Red Flag.
As regards Alan Woods and Socialist Appeal, what was up until recently a moribund group within Labour has now made a dramatic comeback, recruuting rapidly through its new student front, Marxist Students Federation, so much so that a large and vocal contingent of SA/MSF were to be seen on Wednesday's student demo.
Who'd a thunk it?
Will SA's erstwhile comrades in the Socialist Party re-unite with Socialist Appeal, or at least some of them? We shall see.

No to the undemocratic institutions of the EU. No to a British nationalist walkout – for a United Socialist States of Europe.

British leftism really does struggle with the EU question :D

This from Red Flag:
"In reality, the new movement will initiate and participate in struggles against library closures, the Trade Union Bill and in support of migrants and refugees. But it will also hold voter registration stalls (outside libraries, half of which will be closed by Lambeth Labour’s councils!) and openly recruit to Labour. The two go hand in hand. In the process, we hope that many currently unsure of the merit of joining a party still dominated locally and in Parliament by Blairites and Brownites will become clearer about the new period we are in – and sign up."

Unlike some in the Blairite camp, we don’t want Labour to fail in the elections, however anti-Corbyn the candidates. That’s why we will be working hard for Sadiq’s victory.
