What are your thoughts about the ways that capitalism causes sexism and/or makes life harder for women in particular? I’d love to get a good discussion going about this.
Also, how does capitalism create or contribute to creating transphobia? Homophobia? Or at least creating barriers to ending these?
I’m a woman, queer, and an anarchist, but I find my understanding of these things is underdeveloped. I’m happy to hear ideas from anyone, regardless of gender or sexual orientation. Even if your ideas are also underdeveloped I’d still like to hear them… at the very least it can help spark discussion.
Finally, do you know anything good to read on these subjects? I’m looking for stuff that’s focused on today or recent history. (I’ve seen Caliban and the Witch recommended, but that’s historical.) Articles or blog posts are preferred over books, but any recommendations are welcome. Videos or podcasts are great, too. Even old libcom threads! :)

Hi seahorse -
This small booklet (Refusing to Wait: Anarchism and Intersectionality) helped me wrap my mind around this - been meaning to go back over it. I'll try to pull something germane to your question -

Hello Seahorse
This is a great subject for debate and I personally could do with some enlightenment. I do have some thoughts on this but feel a bit unqualified and incapable of expressing them right now. Maybe I'll try later.
I hope that some others engage on this anyway.

Hi Boozemonarchy. I read the article you linked to. It was interesting and covered important stuff, such as:
- an overview of different approaches to feminism (liberal, radical, Marxist, dual system),
- an explanation of intersectional feminism,
- an anarchist criticism of the liberal interpretation of intersectionality,
- the importance of "refusing to wait."
The discussion of reproductive freedom does provide a good example of the way capitalism reinforces sexism, but that was the only thing in the article that really applied to my questions. . Other than that is the quote you gave:
But this is only mentioned in passing without any sort of explanation. Maybe someone here can elaborate?
Still though, the reproductive issue is a really good example. Thanks for the link and for breaking the ice on this discussion.
Noah Fence and anyone else
Noah Fence and anyone else like them who has some thoughts on these issues but doesn't quite feel comfortable posting them on the forum, feel free to PM me and tell me what your ideas are. Don't be shy! I'm nice and if you think your ideas are half-baked then join the club, I'm not going to judge that.
Similar to racism, homophobia
Similar to racism, homophobia and sexism is used to divide the working class and stop them from uniting. If you see women as lessers, or gays as inferior then you are less like to stand side by side with them against capitalism.
